Time to check in on the Electronic Music Alliance! There's been a lot of exciting developments in the dance music space. The EMA has been making moves and connections for a more socially responsible dance culture in 2013.

What is EMA?

The Electronic Music Alliance is a non-profit organization. It's global membership alliance unites the electronic music industry and it's community. Focusing on social responsibility, environmental stewardship, community building, and volunteer work, they are the "sound of change".

The EDM community is always eager to connect and give back. Alliances like the EMA work to support positive culture changes within the festival and dance music community. Read more about their purpose and activities here.

2013 Partnerships

EMA is proud to announce a partnership with CharityBuzz, a celebrity charity auction company. CharityBuzz is the leading impact marketplace for once-in-a-lifetime experiences, exclusive items and unmatched access to celebrities. Their online charity auctions give bidders fun opportunities to live their dreams, meet their favorite celebrities and make a difference.

Charity auctions are an exciting and interactive fundraising model. As part of the partnership, EMA will be able to expand programs and community activation grants. The first auction with CharityBuzz will launch during Miami Music Week.

Additionally, EMA has partnered with e-Stewards enterprise, a company devoted to electronics recycling. As our culture advances, it is more important than ever for people to be mindful about new recycling efforts.

“We are very proud to award EMA the designation of e-Stewards Enterprise and applaud their leadership in electronic asset stewardship” Mike Enberg, e-Stewards Enterprise Director.

Founding Board Member Raymond Stone, the CEO of RaveReady, says "I think that every company wants to do "good things" but it isn't always easy to recognize the small things we can do to make a big difference. EMA was able to help me identify several ways to reduce waste and usage within my business. This, of course, benefits our environment and is in alignment with EMA's mission.”

Association for Electronic Music

A trade organization in the dance music space has been long needed. The EMA is excited to see progress with a partnership with the Association for Electronic Music (AFEM).

“It was really encouraging to see this global step forward galvanizing our industry and community worldwide.  Networks like the EMA and AFEM serve to unite our community for positive impact, ” said Janine Jordan, EMA Executive Director.

"As the owner of a technology company providing tools to electronic music artists, I feel it is imperative that we give back to our community and society, that is why I became a founding member of EMA. " said Alan Smithson, CEO - SmithsonMartin Inc. and Executive Producer of the upcoming film The Drop: The EDM Culture Explosion.

New Board Members

EMA also welcome a new board member. Joining the mission is Julian Reyes, the CEO of Keyframe-Entertainment. He is also the Executive Producer of the recently released documentary “Electronic Awakening”.

“EDM culture is a multi-faceted phenomenon. EMA is a perfect example of an organization focused on social responsibility and environmental stewardship. Our members are focused on utilizing the power of our music to champion actual change in the world” says Julian.

"As this culture continues to grow and evolve, we have an obligation to minimize our environmental impact, monitor safety, and make sure our joy does not come at the expense of others. EMA will represent the ideals of our culture and make available to our community and members socially impactful, sustainable and charitable initiatives” says Janine.

Conclusion

The EMA wants $1 per ticket to go to the promoter’s or artist’s charity or charities of choice. Insomniac, one of the largest event producers in the world, currently employs this practice for its music festivals ticketing. EMA Founding artist members, The Crystal Method, have committed to implementing it in their next tour. Artist members, 3lau, have already successfully implemented that policy and built two schools in Guatemala.

These partnerships and growth are indicators of the bright future of the electronic dance community.
